Intensive Outpatient Program

More support than weekly therapy, without leaving home

Our virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) includes nine hours of group care and one individual session each week. It's a step up from weekly therapy without residential or hospital care.

What it is

Structure for the weeks when you need it most

An intensive outpatient program sits between weekly therapy and residential treatment. Each week includes nine hours of virtual group care and one individual session, while you continue living at home and keep up with work, school, or family responsibilities.

IOP isn't limited to one diagnosis or topic. Care may address anger management, intervention planning, the effects of domestic violence or sexual abuse, drug use, broader mental health concerns, and parenting guidance. Your assessment helps shape which concerns the program focuses on for you.

Because our program runs by video, there's no daily drive. For a lot of people, that's the difference between doing an intensive program and not doing one at all.

Who it may help

IOP may be a good fit if

Your clinician will help you decide whether IOP or weekly therapy is the better level of care right now.

  • Weekly therapy hasn't been enough lately
  • You're working to cut back on or stop using alcohol or drugs
  • Anger or other strong emotions are disrupting daily life
  • Domestic violence or sexual abuse has affected your wellbeing
  • You need support with parenting or a family intervention
  • You're stepping down from inpatient or residential care
  • A mental health concern is getting in the way of work or school

What to expect

How the program works by video

We'll go over the program's exact days, times, and weekly commitment with you before you start.

  1. Assessment

A clinician meets with you to understand what's going on and to confirm that IOP is the right level of care.

  2. Your weekly schedule

You'll review the schedule of group and individual sessions and plan how to fit it around work, school, or family.

  3. Group and individual work

Groups build practical skills across concerns such as anger, trauma, substance use, mental health, and parenting. Your weekly one-on-one session gives you space to focus on your individual needs.

  4. Stepping down

As things stabilize, you'll move to fewer sessions and then to weekly outpatient therapy with us, so the transition feels continuous.

Our approach

How we approach intensive care

Group sessions by video work best when everyone feels safe, so we set clear expectations about privacy from the first day, including joining from a private space and never recording sessions.

The program isn't built around a single topic. It can focus on the specific area you need help with, such as mental health, substance use, trauma, relationships, anger, family responsibilities, or another concern. We also plan for what comes after the program from the beginning, so you finish with a clear next step instead of a sudden drop in support.
